Tracking a run

Start a planned or quick run, follow live pace guidance, and review your recap afterwards.

Start a run

  • Planned run: open the Today tab and start the run scheduled for the day; it carries its pace targets and segments.
  • Quick run: tap the quick-run button, pick a distance preset (3, 5, 8, 10 km) or custom, and choose a type (easy, tempo, long, interval, recovery).
Note · Allow location access

Grant “Always” or “While using” location and background permission so tracking keeps running with your screen off.

During the run

  • Live screen shows a responsive map plus real-time distance, pace, heart rate, and elevation.
  • For planned runs, segment guidance counts you down through each interval or recovery block.
  • Redesigned Live Activity & Dynamic Island: high-contrast typography (Archivo & Inter) designed for bright sunlight, showing live interval targets, split pace vs target window, duration, and distance.
  • Audio cues read out progress at your chosen interval (set 1 km, 5 km, or 10 km in Settings).
  • A pace-window indicator shows whether you’re inside your target zone, behind, or pushing too hard.
  • Pause and resume anytime with smart auto-pause options.
Pro · Voice coaching (Pro)

On Pro, structured workouts get personalized spoken coaching prompts during the run. Without Pro you still get deterministic audio cues and split callouts.

Why pacing stays steady

Runapt filters GPS noise from urban canyons and tree cover so pace readings don’t jump, then shows your real-time offset (for example “3 seconds behind target”) so you can adjust smoothly instead of staring at numbers.

After the run: cooldown and recap

  • Post-run cooldown: complete a guided 5-minute stretch routine right from the recap screen to accelerate recovery.
  • See your detailed summary: distance, time, pace, elevation, split consistency, and heart-rate zones.
  • Multi-template share cards: pick from multiple visual card themes with route map overlays, elevation profiles, and milestone badges.
  • Log which shoes you wore so mileage tracks automatically toward replacement limits.
  • Background sync: your run automatically syncs with Apple Health, Health Connect, and Strava.

Before you head out

  1. 1Launch Run Prep: warm up your joints and activate your running gait with 4–6 minutes of guided mobility drills.
  2. 2Wait a few seconds for a solid GPS lock before pressing Start.
  3. 3Check that background location and audio permissions are granted so tracking never drops.
  4. 4Pick your shoes and launch Spotify if you want a playlist queued up.

Audio cues, Live Activity, and widgets

  • Set how often audio cues read your stats under Settings → Audio cue interval (1 km, 5 km, or 10 km).
  • Lock screen & Dynamic Island: our redesigned Live Activity keeps current split pace, target intervals, and distance crystal clear at a glance.
  • Cues and voice prompts duck your music automatically, then restore playback seamlessly.

Frequently asked

Does tracking work with my screen off?
Yes, as long as you grant background location permission. Your run keeps recording.
Can I run without a plan?
